How do you set up a wireless connection on a laptop?
I have a DSL connected desktop and my laptop has a wireless card. It was working but my motherboard died shortly after the hard drive crashed and I don’t want to have to pay Best Buy another $50 to get the wireless connection to work on the laptop again. It can’t be that difficult – I thought XP would figure this out automatically. What are the steps I should take? I can’t find any wireless connection settings to configure. Since my computer was wiped out – do I need to download some drivers for the card or additional software from somewhere? The instructions given in the Help Center are useless because I don’t have the selections they are telling me to click on. Help!
I’m using XP and the desktop is connected directly to a DSL box. So it’s entirely automatic for the laptop – it’s supposed to be. The laptop is the wireless machine it’s a "wonderful" Medion.
you might be required to install drivers for your wireless card. check the network card manufacturer’s name and model number and you can search from google for its driver. to avoid worms and viruses, try to search on manufacturer’s website.
information about your wireless card can be found by right clicking my computer>properties>hardware>device manager too.
if you still cannot do that check out at www.drivershq.com and scan your system (PS for this step you must be connected to the internet from the same computer, laptop in this case). you said you have a dsl, give it a shot. i guess that helps
